Cars have come a long way in 60 years, thankfully! But way back in the 1950s, the production lines of that era had unique ways of attempting to minimise air gaps in the car bodywork. Not overly effective, but at least nice to look at – keep your Triumph TR looking correct for that era of manufacture with these newly sewn material draught excluder covers. Available in a variety of materials and colours – please see below for more in-depth descriptions, videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

These furflex draught excluders were the basic method used in the 1950s to reduce the air gaps around the door opening on these early Triumph TR models. From 1953 to 1957, during the production of the TR2 and TR3 cars, pvc covered rubber pipings were tacked to the rear edge of the A Post footwell area, as well as the leading edging of the B Post Quarter Panels. These furflex covers were supplied in a matching material and colour to the surrounding interior panels. The material used was updated in late 1957 for the TR3A/B cars – which used a velour-style “moquette” furflex to serve the same purpose in the car.

These sewn material covers were originally supplied in Vynide (Leathercloth) from the factory production line. Commonly these days, this material is superseded with Vinyl (Ambla), although Leathercloth (Vynide) is still available if requested (colour dependent). Very few cars, if any, would have left with Leather covers – and if they did, this would have been a special order item. Note when “Leather” is mentioned on the heritage certificates, this is often referring to the Seats and some of the Cappings around the cockpit of the car. See our FAQs for more information.

With templates designed in the early 1980s using templates from the cars themselves – we have supplied the same pre-sewn kits for this area of the car for decades. With the correct 13mm black rubber core, and top-stitching detail to create a clean finish at both ends of the strips; we have improved on the original aesthetics of these parts – whilst maintaining is suitability to purpose….the top-stitching design is not strictly “original” – the original versions were loosely stapled together leaving a messy looking raw top-edge! It is details, changes and knowledge such as this that has helped John Skinners maintain their position as the leading manufacturer of Triumph TR interior upholstery kits.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Triumph restoration project.

Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
