The Triumph TR2 is a vintage classic British sports car produced by the Standard Motor Company, with Sir John Black at the helm. They were manufactured in the United Kingdom during the years 1953, 1954 and 1955, in which time 8,636 cars were produced; including both the “short door” and “long door” versions of the TR2 Triumph classic vintage car.
With the success of the TR2 model the Standard Motor Company, under the guidance of Sir John Black, started production of the Triumph TR3 in 1955. Throughout 1995, 1956 and 1957 a total of 13,377 Triumph TR3 cars were produced, varying between the Short and Long door versions.
The successor to the TR3, dubbed the TR3A, commenced production during 1957, and continued through 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, ending in 1962, with a short batch run of the TR3B model. During this time a total of 58,309 TR3A cars were produced, with 3,334 TR3B models.
In 1961, Triumph Standard Motor Company called on the services of famed Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti to design what became the TR4. This saw the introduction of the embossed “weld” pattern on many of the interior panels that would become synonymous with all the Triumphs from this point on. Throughout its production in the years 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1965, a total of 40,253 cars were produced.
The Triumph TR4A IRS, commonly referred to as the TR4A, was introduced in 1965. It was a direct follow on from the TR4 Soft and Surrey Top models, with a few subtle interior trim updates. Production ran for almost three years during the years 1965, 1966 and 1967, totalling 28,465 deliveries worldwide.
The Triumph TR5 PI is a Petrol Injection sports car produced by the Triumph Standard Motor Company. With a short production run of just 2,947 cars, manufactured between 1967 and 1968, the Triumph TR5 soon became a much sought after model. During the same period, the Standard Motors Company produced an American equivalent of the Triumph TR5 car – called the Triumph TR250 – which featured a Carburettor engine rather than Petrol Injection. In total, 8,484 TR250 cars were produced during 1967 and 1968.
The Triumph TR6 was introduced during 1969, featuring an updated design by the German motoring company Karmann. Production ran during 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976. During this nine year production run a total of 13,912 TR6 Petrol Injections were produced; as well as 77,938 TR6 Carburettor models specifically for the North American / USA market. A number of subtle, as well as obvious, changes were made to the interior trim of these Triumph TR6 cars.

We have a fully functional Computer Aided Design (CAD) CNC cutting machine which we use to cut our Hardboard and Millboard blanks. All of our panels have been made using Original Triumph TR panels. We have updated some of these patterns over the years, reacting from feedback from a variety of knowledgable sources including customers, professional trimmers and Triumph enthusiasts. Some of our Vinyl, Leather and Carpet materials are also cut using this CNC machine, whilst others are cut by hand, in order to produce the highest quality finish for your vintage Triumph TR sports car.
We have a dedicated team of trimmers who control the production of all the main Trim Panels. These panels include fully upholstered trim panels for the Door Panels and Pockets, Centre Console Side Speaker Panels, Quarter “B” Posts and Bulkhead Panels, all located within the main cockpit of your TR. We can also supply all the main millboard panels located with the Boot / Trunk area of your Triumph.
John Skinner Ltd also have all the tooling used to emboss the original high frequency weld patterns found on the Triumph TR4, TR4A IRS, TR5, TR250 and TR6 Door Panels, Quarter Panels and Bulkhead Panels. We also have the correct tooling to replicate this the weld pattern for the moulded hardboard Bulkhead Panel of the Triumph TR3A / TR3B model. Note that many other Triumph TR Classic Car trim manufacturers and trim companies have to stitch these panel patterns as they do not have the capabilities to weld them. We can, of course, offer stitch lines in these areas if you prefer!
Seat Covers & Carpet Sets
In addition to the Panel work, we also manufacture the Seat Cover Kits, Headrest Covers and Carpet Sets for the Triumph TR2 to TR6 models. We also produce pre-cut and sewn re-trim upholstery kits for the Dash and Crashroll pads, Capping kits, Wheel Arch Covers, Furflex Draught Excluders, Centre Console H Frames, Gear Lever “Boot” Gaitors, and Headliners.
Our team of experience sewing machinists manufacture your original Triumph TR sewn items using a variety of different industrial sewing machines including several original Singer Sewing Machines. John Skinner Limited are one of the only manufacturers who can replicate the original “Diamond” weld pattern that was featured on the TR5 / TR250 and TR6 Vinyl / Ambla Seat Covers. In addition we also have the correct weld pattern tooling for the TR4 to TR6 Occasional Rear Seat Cushion Cover, as well as the TR4 Soft Top Rear 3 Piece Unit that covers the Hood Frame area.
We manufacture our Carpet Sets for the main cockpit and boot / trunk areas to original specification. They feature binding / piping sewn edges on all parts that Triumph originally bound. We can offer our customers a choice of standard tufted pile Nylon carpet or the very high quality and durable Woven Wool carpet. Please note that the Loop Pile that was originally used by Triumph is no longer available.
